I’m lagging behind in documenting my dreadmill adventures. My friend asked when I was writing another, as she enjoys these blogs the most. I have a couple stories and progression to discuss, so here you go…
I will NEVER be a fan of the damn dreadmill. I just won’t. You just keep going and going. No matter how ‘far’ the screen says you have walked/wogged, you are still in the same spot. You become the hamster on a wheel. That messes with me mentally. I need change of scenery. However, I am a fair-weathered runner now. I’ll just wait till temps are better before I step outside.
I have the opportunity to be on a treadmill at work and with my hunka hunka at his gym. The convenience of having a treadmill at work is nice because I can do it at lunch and be done. I especially like it when I go into the fitness room and nobody is there. If someone is on the treadmill next to me, I suddenly feel a need to race.

I keep a steady slow pace of 6.0 mph (10 minute mile). I’m working on easing into increasing my time. When I was at the gym with my hunka hunka the other day, a young guy in skater shoes was in front of me on a treadmill going 9.0 mph. WHAT! That’s not motivation for me. But he only lasted two minutes… Yes, I was watching. I just thought it was near impossible to keep that speed in THOSE shoes. I guess he just did it to impress his friend. Whew…I can get back to my workout.
I was feeling good last Sunday. My hunka hunka and I went to the gym for a workout. I jump on the dreadmill with my headphones. I’m a new fan of Sword & Scale podcasts. Call me weird, but I love listening to crazy murder cases. There are some crazy freaks out there. I love googling the cases or even remembering the cases and hearing 911 calls in regards. I was so caught up in a case that I didn’t realize how much I had run. I was almost jumping up and down on the dreadmill when I was nearing THREE MILES. THREE MILES! I pushed through and made it. YES!! I did it. For the record…I didn’t jump up and down. You have no idea how klutzy I am. I would have face-planted hard on that one.

I couldn’t wait to find my hunka hunka to tell him the good news. That is the farthest I have run in 5 years. FIVE YEARS! Go me!! Toot toot. Tooting my own horn.
My hunka hunka encouraged me to order a new running watch. My former Garmin was old and outdated. I invested in a new Garmin. Super excited and cannot wait to get out on the road with it. Since I bought another Garmin, I reactivated my old account. Sure enough, nearly five years since I have run. My last time was April 6, 2014. I ran 5.5 miles. Made my smile to see my old running records.
It’s hard to put into words how great it feels to be a runner again. I’m hoping those three miles weren’t just a fluke and that I will only get stronger. I have no intentions to race again; I just want to run. Running is a stress-relieving, mood changer for me. I leave the weight of the world on the pavement. I seriously cannot wait to pound that pavement again.
Until next time…peace out, Trout!!
