April Showers

This has been a year of storms. I’m ready for summer, hot and humid.

I hadn’t walked since Tuesday due to nonstop storms so I jumped at the chance yesterday between the showers.

Work has been a crap show all week, and I needed the mental break. I was so happy to get out there.

I wore my old faithful hat. My hat and I go back to 1998.

I was in my second year of running and I loved this hat. I’m a hat wearer; always have been. This hat has been my weather-running hat. It has kept so many raindrops and snowflakes off my face. If you flip it upside down, you would see the royal blue bill underneath is extremely faded. The fading has proved its loyalty to me. So many years of pounding the pavement during many storms in my life, figuratively and literally.

It’s always there.

I dodged as many puddles as I could. My mailman was gracious enough to wait till I got past him so he wouldn’t splash me.

However I still stepped in a couple, but it didn’t slow me down.

As I was finishing up the last half mile, the rain started coming down again.

But I made it. And I felt so much better afterwards. It’s amazing how much thirty minutes can change your entire mindset.

I came home to a pair of mallard ducks roaming the yard. Made my heart smile. Many open fields are now tiny ponds with all the rain.

Peace out, Trouts!
